Why Sitting Too Much Is Bad For Your Health

Sitting Blog

There are negative effects of sitting! Humans were designed to stand upright. But with COVID-19 forcing many of us to work from home, we are forced to sit for 8+hours/day for work, plus the time spent sitting watching TV/other leisure activities. If we do not stand up and keep moving, our health can decline from many different viewpoints. In fact, many researchers believe excessive sitting can be just as harmful as smoking!

Here are some of the potential impacts that too much sitting can have on our bodies:

  1. Muscle Wasting/Weight Gain
  2. Back & Neck Pain
  3. Heart & Cardiovascular Disease
  4. Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome
  5. Varicose Veins
  6. Anxiety and Depression
  7. Deep Vein Thrombosis

This is not a post to scare you into becoming a fitness enthusiast. It is simply to bring awareness of the impact of lifestyle changes we have all faced while we battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Make it a priority to stand up for at least 5 minutes every hour, and to find time to exercise every day even if it is to take a light walk around your neighborhood.
Start the new year off on the right foot, and get yourself upright!
