Student-Athletes: COVID-19 Impact

Sports

Our communities continue to see the impact that COVID-19 is having on our daily lives. Since COVID-19 hit we have adjusted the way we interact with each other, we have dealt with increased healthcare protocols and procedures and we have changed our work habits and environment entirely. As we enter the 2020-2021 school year we will again be reminded of the virus and the destructive path that it seems to carry with it.

Changes in classroom interaction with remote learning as well as cancellations of entire sports seasons will have a lasting impact on students and student-athletes. The ability to run, play, and compete at a high level with others seems like a distant thought. Finding ways to stay active and manage the new stressors brought on by COVID-19 will be imperative for children and parents. While many families of student-athletes are reaching for club teams and personal training sessions, this is not an option for all nor is it the only option.

Physical Therapy is a great option for all student-athletes and their families to stay healthy as they transition into the nuances of this school year. Our goal at React Physical Therapy is to take a full-body approach that allows us to balance one’s body while restoring natural movements. Remote learning and discontinued sports seasons will have a direct effect on children’s minds and bodies. It will be important to maintain healthy movement patterns and stay strong with all the new demands this school year will bring. Therapists can work with student-athletes on injury prevention as well as sport-specific demands to keep them strong and healthy for when the competition returns!
