Hip Mobility: An Important Golf Swing Component

Hip Mobility

Hip mobility is one of the most important components of a successful golf swing and to the longevity of your game. Our hips are anatomically one of the most mobile joints in the body and are intended to be used as such. On the contrary, our lower back is designed to be among the most stable group of joints in our body.
Too many golfers have poor mobility of their hips, resulting in excessive rotation of their lower back. Not only can this lead to a myriad of lumbar spine injuries, but it also decreases the distance your ball is hit.  The two biggest hip directions used in golf include external rotation and internal rotation. Both are equally important for each leg, in both the backswing and follow-through. Make it a priority to achieve adequate amounts of hip mobility in your training and your pre-round warm-ups!
