Is Golf Considered a Sport?

Given the slow nature of the game of golf, it can often be debated whether golf is a sport. To those who are recently introduced to the game, it can appear like a lazy game that doesn’t require a great deal of athleticism. However, that is far from the truth. Elite golfers are always elite athletes. Tiger Woods did not become the greatest of all time while ignoring the gym. I agree that golfers’ athleticism is not the same required in the game of football or basketball. But hitting a golf ball 300+ yards is not accomplished by doing Yoga twice a week.

The new generation of golfers is realizing the importance of fitness more than ever. New-age golfers like Bryson DeChambeau are revolutionizing the approach to training for the game by highlighting how power, strength, and speed can give you a significant advantage over your competition. And yes, even endurance/stamina is necessary. If football is a game of inches, golf is a game of millimeters. Both mental and physical endurance/stamina are needed to produce the level of consistency of a highly precise swing for 4 hours.

Golfers should train like athletes if they want to take their game to the next level!
